$200 to visit relatives in Prison

The Prison Administration wishes to inform the general public that come Monday 25, September, 2017, persons wishing to see their relatives at the Lusignan will have to pay a fee of $200.

According to a release from the Prison Director, an authorized vehicle will transport visitors from the Security Checkpoint to the Visiting Booth area at the cost of two hundred dollars ($200.00) Guyana Currency return.

The Prison Administration also indicated that there are no changes for visits to inmates.

  • Visits to Persons on Remand – MONDAY, WEDNESDAY OR FRIDAY, for a duration of ten (10) minutes.
  • Visits to Persons Convicted – TUESDAY OR THURSDAY for a duration of twenty (20) minutes.
  • Family Visits – Every three (03) months for a duration of twenty (20) minutes.
  • Visits will not be conducted on any National Holiday. Visits will commence from 08:30 am to 1:00 pm and bookings for visits will be closed at 11:30 am.

Persons are advised to walk with their National ID or Passport when making bookings.

The regular change-of-clothing exercise will be conducted on the completion of each visit. The relatives of prisoners desirous of visiting will report to the Security Check Point area (about 350 meters from the Embankment) where Self-Support is conducted, for booking and further instructions.

The Director further noted that the dress Code:

Males: No short pants No armless tops Females: No short dresses No short skirts/pants No tights/leggings/jeggings No strapless tops No tight clothing No sleeveless clothing Civilians must be properly attired at all times in order to be considered for a visit.

Failure to adhere to instructions will result in visit being cancelled.

The Prison Administration also wishes to inform the General Public that the Visiting Booths for the Lusignan Prison and the New Holding Bay have been completed.

These arrangements take effect from Monday, September 25, 2017.
