Acting top cop lambaste Magistrate for utterances against ranks

Acting Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine on Wednesday lambasted Magisttrate Rabindranauth Singh, for statements he made against investigators of the Guyana Police Force during the appearance of murder accused, Nankool Manohar and others at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

“I wish to indicate that those statements or remarks made by the supposedly learned Magistrate are insulting and reckless and certainly should never have been uttered,” the Commissioner noted.

In defense of the investigators, Ramnarine noted that the GPF CID has done their work with due diligence, “and worked well over and above the normal call of duty, in oftentimes difficult circumstances, finally resulting in the preferment of the charges, which received legal advice,” he said.

The top cop is contending that the Magistrate may have some grievance with the investigating ranks and other police officers.

“This can be reasonably deduced from the fact that he was subsequently removed from presiding over a very high profile matter of murder in which the very investigators were involved.
I can only conclude that his unfortunate and reckless utterances intended to malign these hardworking Police Officers and our Legal Advisors are as a result of his youthfulness, inexperience and being unschooled,”

The magistrate allegedly called the ranks “a pack of jokers” because they were unprepared to move forward with the case.
