Body of woman discovered in Uitvlugt house

A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted today on the partially decomposed remains of a woman who was discovered in her home at Uitvlugt Pasture, West Coast Demerara on Friday by her brother.

According to police sources, the remains of 43-year-old Vijaiantimala Persaud also known as Golin, was discovered by her brother, Ramesh Persaud last Friday in her home at approximately 11:40 hrs.

According to the source, the relative told police that he last spoke with his sister on Tuesday last and was supposed to hear from her the following day, but he became suspicious after calls to her cell phone went unanswered and decided to visit her the following Friday since she resided alone.

Guyana Daily News understands that the victim’s brother accessed the house by force since it was locked from the inside; he discovered the body of his sister lying face down on the bed.

He then alerted neighbours who quickly notified the police. Foul play is suspected since the woman’s body bore several marks of violence. Neighbours told police that they last saw Golin when she returned from her brother’s house on Tuesday, and became concerned when she wasn’t seen in her yard since she would usually sit in front of the house in the afternoon.

The neighbours also told police that a ‘rasta’ man had frequented the woman’s house on several occasions, and the couple seemed quite normal since they were never heard arguing.

The police source said the man reportedly disappeared since the woman was last seen.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and so far no arrests have been made.
