Police in ‘A’ Division have placed one of its investigative ranks under close arrest after allegations surfaced that he took a bribe of $500,000 from a man. The rank, identified as a Constable, was at the time investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18 year old Better Hope East Coast Demerara resident.
The child was reportedly lashed to the head with a wood by his father.
Investigations found that 40 year old Omar Khan and his 18 year old son Azeez Khan had a misunderstanding on Saturday and the older Khan struck the younger Khan to the head with a piece of wood.
The teenager was picked up and rushed to the hospital but died the following day.
After the death, the man went to the police to report the death but said that his son fell from a ladder. Persons who were however familiar with what took place told the police that the man was giving them a false report, hence the investigation was launched and the father arrested.
Under interrogation, he eventually told ranks the truth and then implicated the police constable. The rank was arrested on Wednesday and he is likely to be charged.
