DPP’s decision should be fair- PPP

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP)  says that it notes the expectation expressed by the Government that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would review the private criminal charges filed by PPP/C Members of Parliament (MPs) Bishop Juan Edghill and Vickram Bharrat against Ministers Volda Lawerence and George Norton for Misconduct in Public Office Contrary to Common Law, respectively.

Opposition MP,  Anil Nandlall has called on the DPP to review the charges laid against two of the PPP senior ranking members, the DPP was given an ultimatum, that was Friday, Nandlall od expected to move to the Courts if the DPP fails to heed the request. The PPP noted that the request was not heeded as of Sunday.

However, the PPP filed similar charges against two senior government Ministers and the government on Friday made a similar call to have the DPP stop the charges against the two government Ministers.

The PPP recalls that the DPP did not intervene when frivolous private criminal charges were filed against former President, Bharrat Jagdeo, two years ago, by Christopher Ram.

Whatever actions the DPP takes, the PPP expects it to be fair, even-handed and non-discriminatory.
