The Cheddi Jagan Centennial Commemorative Stamp was officially launched by the Ministry of the Presidency and the Guyana Post Office Corporation on Wednesday at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Those present were sister of the Late President, Barbara Fries, Grandson of Dr. Jagan, Kyle Jagan, Murtland Massiah, Post Master General, among a few others, No government Ministers or PPP officials were present, The PPP officials were not invited.
The Post Master General in his remarks noted that while there were hiccups in getting the stamps out, it has much more meaning.
“Now rather than just a presentation and a launch that would have honoured him in a way that would only have reflected his work in a partial manner, we are now witnessing a launch that is truly reflective of his life and work being honoured by this nation,” he said.
Also addressing the gathering was Chairman of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, Hydar Ally.
Mr. Ally noted that despite the blocks with getting the stamps out, “with great pleasure and great humility that we participate this afternoon in this launching,” he noted.
