The Government of Guyana will be hiring foreign help for the anticipated Department of Energy that is expected to have over sight of the oil and gas sector in Guyana. “It is bound to be a challenge because this is an international industry and we are aiming at a world-class industry,” Granger said.
That department will come under the Ministry of the Presidency. President David Granger made this revelation on the sidelines of an event at State House on Wednesday.
The President also noted that his government is in talks and they will have to identify those people for the sector, “we have to identify building and start advertising to attract the quality personnel that can lead this important department into the future so we are being very careful,”
Back in February, the powers of the Minister of Natural resources was diminished by shifting the responsibility of the energy sector to a new department, this is something the Minister Trotman is once again denying.
The Department of Energy will have direct supervision from the the Head of State, David Granger, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, will report in National Assembly on matters of the sector. Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo will not be reporting on that sector.
