The Commander of the Brazilian Army has awarded Chief of Staff, of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier, Patrick West and Inspector General, Colonel Nazrul Hussain with the Brazilian Army Medal.
The Officers were presented with the medals by Brazilian Ambassador to Guyana, Lineu Pupo De Paula and Brazilian Defence, Naval and Army Attache, Colonel Emerson Deni Da Silva, at the Brazilian Embassy, earlier today.
The medals were awarded in recognition of the outstanding services rendered to the Brazilian Army and also comes on the heels of the ‘Day of the Brazilian Army’ which was celebrated on April 19.
Col. Silva, in brief remarks, noted that the Brazilian Embassy and the Brazilian Army recognise the dedication with which Brigadier West and Colonel Hussain have undertaken to the strengthening of the defence as well as the friendship bonds between Guyana and Brazil.
The GDF noted that this year marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Guyana and Brazil and the two continue to enjoy fruitful relations. Col. Silva singled out a number of areas in which the two countries have strengthened relations, including the participation of GDF in courses and internships with the Brazilian Army and the performance of simultaneous operations at the border for the purpose of combating transnational crimes.
Also attending this morning’s ceremony was Deputy Chief of Mission of the Brazilian Embassy, Minister Ronaldo De Lima Vieira, Several Senior Officers of the Guyana Defence Force and Chief of Security Corporate Officer – US Embassy, Lieutenant Commander Mircea Stoica. (Photo: GDF)
