Interview for Police Commissioner initiated

The Guyana Police Force may be one step closer to seeing a substantive Police Commissioner of Police and a number of Deputy Commissioners of Police.

Last week a three man panel met with the Assistant Commissioners of Police in the organization at the Ministry of the Presidency where the process started.

Those interviewed were Maxine Graham, Paul Williams, Marlon Chapman, Clifton Hicken, Nigel Hoppie, David Ramnarine, Lyndon Alves and Leslie James.

The Guyana Police Force presently does not have a substantive Commissioner of Police and David Ramnarine has been acting as the Top Cop while there are no Deputy Commissioner of Police, although those offices are being occupied by Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The Force last saw the promotion of Deputy Commissioners of Police in the persons of retired Top Cops Leroy Brumell and Seelall Persaud and those orders.

The interviewing panel before whom the Assistant Commissioners of Police appeared included two sitting Ministers of Government.

The interviewing process is expected to be the first of many other events which will follow the as the president seeks to have his commissioner of Police and deputy commissioners of Police.

The move will also pave the way for the rolling out of the regional commanders initiative which the government is also mulling.
