The police are investigating a shooting incident that took place around 05:00hrs on Thursday at Breeda Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown where a man was shot to his abdomen.
According to Sheldon Forde of Breeda Street, a resident of the area, he heard two loud explosions that sounded like gun shots and he went to investigate. He told investigating ranks that he saw a large crowd gathered and an unknown male was lying on the ground holding onto his belly.
He (Forde) then ran to Hadfield Street, where he summoned a taxi and with the help of others who had gathered, placed the injured man into the car and took him to GPHC. The man was immediately taken into surgery. The area was checked for CCTV cameras but none was seen. A check at the GPHC proved that the unknown male condition is listed as critical and is presently a patient of the medical institution in an unconscious state. Investigations are ongoing.
