North West man slapped with wounding charge

A Notrh West District man has been released on $70,000 bail on Wednesday for wounding a Region One resident. He was aslo ordered to stay away from the Virtual Complainant.

Neil “Legend” Roberts, age 19 years of Region One made his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan in the Georgetown Magistrates Court and had the charge read to him, the man denied that on September 20, at Quarry-Top, Port Kaituma NWD, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dondie Bumbary with intent to cause greviously bodily harm.

The Court heard that on the day in question, the accused had gone to a shop in Kaituma to purchase cigarettes when he noticed the defendant (Bumbary) slapping his cousin, the man then intervened and the two had a scuffled after which Roberts left the scene.

He then returned shortly after with a cutlass and chopped Bumbary about his body. The man was then rushed to the North West Regional Hospital where he was admitted. Roberts was arrested and charged.

The matter was adjourned until November 26 when it will be called at the Mathew’s Ridge Magistrate Court.
