Prisoner assaulted at Lusignan facility

A prisoner who is on remand at the Lusignan Prison for possession of an illegal firearm has been assaulted by prisoner/s on Friday at around 20:30hrs.

According to Prison officials, the man sustained injuries to his head. When asked what might have caused the attack, he was unable to say, he however indicated to ranks that he has no conflict with anyone currently in the facility. The police have been called in and is currently investigating the matter. The prisoner has been hospitalised.

On Thursday last at around 10:45hrs, the police acting on information went to a house at E Field Sophia East Coast Demerara and arrested the 25 year-old dog food vendor after he was found in possession of an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol with 12 live matching rounds.
