Residents of the flood affected areas in Regions 7 and 8 have begun rebuilding in the aftermath of the devastation that was left behind after a number of homes and farms were completely destroyed by flood waters.
According to a source from the Civil Defense Commission (CDC), rehabilitation works have commenced in a number of areas since the water has almost completely receded in Potaro – Siparuni Region 8 area.
Guyana Daily News understands that the waters have decreased significantly in the rivers and rehabilitation efforts have commenced by residents with resources from the Commission.
Meanwhile, Amerindian People’s Association (APA) representative, Michael McGarrel told Guyana Daily News that there are no reported cases of casualties and the emergency relief that was received by residents has assisted tremendously.
“But we still have a long way to go and is still welcoming donations from the public.”
Over 3000 residents from several communities within Regions 7 and 8 were affected by the devastating floods, caused by intense rainfall which contributed to the over topping of several rivers.
However, residents of Chenapou, Waipa, Kaibarupai and Itabac were the most severely flood hit areas which saw more than fifteen homes being completely submerged and at least two were washed away.
