Speeding minibus allegedly caused death of Pedestrian in Berbice

The Police have arrested a minibus driver for allegedly causing the death of 39 year-old Laikram Singh of 175 Block D Bath Settlement, WCB.

The accident took place around 18:30hrs on Sunday on the Bath Settlement Public Road, WCB. According to police reports, the pedestrian was struck down whilst in the process of crossing the road from South to North. Singh was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Forth Wellington Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.


Police further disclosed that minibus BVV 2961 which was driven by the 25-year-old resident of Belladrum Village, WCB, was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the road reportedly at a very fast rate when the pedestrian who was alleged to have suddenly began crossing the road, as a result he ended up in the path of the vehicle which collided with him.

The body is presently at the Fort Wellington Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem on Wednesday. Investigation is continuing.
