(Barbados Today) Investigations into Tropical Storm Kirk by an Airforce Reconnaissance aircraft has discovered that the system is a little stronger.
Barbados remains under a tropical storm warning as the system continues its trek towards the Lesser Antilles.
At 11:00 a.m. Kirk was centred near 12.1 degrees north, 54.3 degrees west or about 360 miles east of Barbados.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 miles per hour with tropical storm force winds extending 115 miles from the center.
The system continues to move towards the west at near 18 miles per hour and on this track the center of Kirk is expected to pass about 50 miles to the north of Barbados between Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon.
The Met office says Barbados will experience gusty winds, heavy showers, periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms later tonight and tomorrow.
It has also cautioned that rainfall accumulations of two-four inches are possible between tonight and Friday morning and therefore flash flooding is likely in low lying areas.
Residents are therefore advised to take all the necessary precautions.
