GDF Captain Orwain Sandy will stand trial for the murder of Reona Payne. On Wednesday, Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman heard from Psychiatrist, Dr. Bhiro Harry who informed that the captain is fit to stand trial for the murder.
The Psychiatric report was handed over to the court, the report was pending before the matter gets on the way. Sandy is currently on remand for the murder.
The case has been adjourned until May 24, where an independent evaluation is expected as was requested by Sandy’s attorney, James Bond.
The former personal aide to the GDF’s Chief of Staff will return to court on May 2nd when the report is expected to be completed.
Sandy allegedly shot Payne fourteen times before he turned himself into the police along with the murder weapon which was his service weapon. The incident took place at First Street Aleaxander Village, on 31st March, 2018.
According to reports, the two had a heated argument in a motor car before Sandy exited the car and shot Payne once to the head and thirteen times to the body.
The Guyana Defence Force after learning of the incident, immediately interdict Sandy from all duties, a board of inquiry was also launched by the GDF into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
