Father of one gets three years jail for less than one gram of ganja

Ravi Dev Mohan, a miner has been sentenced to three years in Jail and fine $30,000 by Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman, on Friday for 0.05grams of marijuana he had in his possession . The man pleaded guilty to the charge. The Magistrate in handing down the sentencing noted that she took into consideration the early guilty plea, prevalence of the offence and that the sentence should serve to deter others from committing the crime.

The court heard that on Labor Day at Four Miles toll gated, Port Kaituma, Region One, at around 11:50hrs police from the area saw the father of one on an ATV bike and stopped him. They then requested a search when they discovered the illegal substance in his jacket.
