The Ministry of the Presidency on Friday said that Raphael Trotman remains the Minister of Natural Resource. According to the Ministry, the Minister has not been stripped of any responsibilities and remains a significant member of the Government.
“The Ministry would like to place publicly on record that the establishment of the Department of Energy does not take away from the Minister’s responsibilities. The DoE has only resulted in the Petroleum Division being shifted from the Ministry of Natural Resources to the Department under the Ministry of the Presidency. All responsibilities for the natural resources sector including the gold and diamond mining, logging and forestry industries, among others remain with Minister Trotman.”
Guyana Daily News previously reported that the Minster was fired from his position as Minister of Natural Resources and also responsibility for the petroleum sector, based on the Official Gazzette dated 2nd August, 2018. The changes took effect as of 1st August, 2018.
The document stated that the Minister of Natural Resources portfolio has been deleted form Raphael Trotman, also responsibility for the petroleum sector. The Gazette however has Trotman as a Minister. The Changes came about as a result of the creation of the Department of Energy which will be overlooked by Minister of State, Joseph Harmon.
