Three paratroopers attached to the Guyana Defense Force were this morning injured during a routine training operation at Timehri, East Bank Demerara. The incident took place sometime during the course of this morning.
According to the details reaching Guyana Daily News, the ranks, all males, were rushed to the Diamond Hospital after the incident and then subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are currently undergoing medical evaluation by doctors. Sources within the GDF could not confirm the extent of the injuries to the personnel or if they had any broken bones.
Minister of State Joseph Harmon earlier noted that the men suffered the injuries as a result of their paracutes not opening on time, this he noted can be as a result of low winds while conducting the operations. He further noted that this can result in the troopes approaching the ground faster than is expected. Head of the GDF Patrick West confirmed the incident with this news outfit.
An internal investigation has since been launched into the development.
